Originally from Maui, Hawaii, Lehua Custer is an accomplished dressage rider, trainer, and educator based in Wellington, Florida. After earning her degree in psychology from Pepperdine University, she spent ten years as assistant trainer to two-time Olympian Hilda Gurney at Keenridge Farm, developing expertise in young-horse training, breeding, and the progression of horses through the FEI levels.
In 2010, Lehua established her own training business. Among her career highlights are winning the 2017 US Dressage Finals Third Level Open Championship aboard F.J. Ramzes and subsequently developing him to Grand Prix. She received The Dressage Foundation’s $25,000 Carol Lavell Advanced Dressage Prize in both 2019 and 2020.
A USDF Bronze, Silver, and Gold Medalist and USDF Certified Instructor, Lehua has also coached riders at Championships and contributed to dressage education and sport-horse development initiatives. Her experience spans competitive dressage, breeding, and para-dressage, reflecting her commitment to developing talented horses and riders through thoughtful, systematic training.
