Sarah Dunkerton at Copeland Farms

Sarah began riding at a young age at her family farm in Soso, Mississippi. She was an active member of Southern Breeze Pony Club, where she achieved her C1 rating before deciding to pursue her competitive goals. The USPC's strong emphasis on horse management gave Sarah a solid foundation to center her approach to training around. In 2006, she had the opportunity to spend the winter working for Pam Weidiman. Sarah thrived off of the structure and discipline from this program and decided to return in 2007. She went on to work for Gretchen and Steph Butts in the winter of 2008 and spent that summer at Waredaca in Maryland. It was then that she found her current mount, Matapeake. She took "Petey" on trial that summer and decided to purchase him when her horse at the time was having soundness issues. Sarah worked in Florida for the Butts again in the winter of 2009. She then spent several weeks working for Leslie Law that summer to prepare for the training three day at the Florida Horse Park, where she finished second. Sarah took on a working student position for Becky Holder in 2009, who she worked for until 2014, when she started her own barn. All of these experiences have helped shape Sarah into the hard working, dedicated person that she is today. Sarah has two Thoroughbreds — Matapeake (Petey) and Old Man Moel (Winston). She takes pride in bringing horses up through the levels and enjoys helping riders reach their full potential. Dunkerton hails an impressive competition record with events extending into Canada. Sarah would like to represent her country at the highest level of eventing someday.
